Scottsbluff Public Schools is proud to announce that Scottsbluff High School has for the second time been named a Unified Champion Banner School by Special Olympics. Scottsbluff High School students and staff will participated in a banner presentation on Wednesday, December 4th.

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® (SOUCS) is a program for schools Pre-K through university that intentionally promotes meaningful social inclusion by bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities to create accepting school environments, utilizing three interconnected components: Special Olympics Unified Sports®, inclusive youth leadership, and whole school engagement. 9,440 schools across the country participate in the SOUCS program.  Scottsbluff High School joins 208 school across the nation that were awarded Banner school status for the 2024 school year. Banner schools demonstrate commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 national standards of excellence developed by a national panel of leaders from Special Olympics and the education community.

 

Circle of Friends

 

The presentation included recognition for Unified Bowling and Track, Circle of Friends, Peer Paras, and other activities and programs that promote inclusion at SHS, performances from the SHS Cheer and Drill Team, Colors presented by JROTC and guest speakers. Students also signed a pledge of inclusivity.
