SHS Math Students break school record with placement on UNL Math Day PROBE 2 Contest

The UNL Math Day PROBE 2 contest was held on Saturday, April 2 in Lincoln. Scottsbluff High School had 12 PROBE 2 qualifiers, the most of any school in the state. For reference, Millard North had the second most qualifiers with 9 and Lincoln East had the third most qualifiers with 6.

The previous school record was held by Jamie Chen in 2016 with an 8th place finish overall. Congratulations to junior CAL HELDT on a 3rd place overall finish and winning a $4000 scholarship. Congratulations to senior JOHN MENTGEN on a 7th place overall finish and winning a $2000 scholarship.

Our PROBE 2 qualifiers enjoyed a Math Circle session at Brace Laboratory on Friday, April 1st at the UNL campus. The session was led by Dr. Eloisa Grifo and Dr. Jack Jeffries. The topic was game theory and John Conway's Game of Life.

PROBE 2 qualifiers represent the top 50 students in the state. The PROBE I Exam was held on December 2 to determine the top 50. Our PROBE 2 qualifiers were:
