Safety and Security

SafetyThe critical importance of school safety outweighs all other priorities for Scottsbluff Public Schools. Parents must be able to send their children off to school each day with confidence that they will return “safe and sound” to them each afternoon.

Many initiatives and enhancements are in place and in the process as we examine the safety components of our school district's safety and security planning. Below are some of the most significant:

Emergency Communications

The fastest way to get information in an emergency situation is to follow the District on Facebook and X and check our homepage on the website for alerts.

The District will utilize the Remind system to communicate with families in the event of an emergency. Families should ensure they receive messages and all contact information is kept up to date with your local schools.

Your Role: What Families Should Do in the Event of an Emergency

  • Do not go to the school. This may interfere with procedures and create an unsafe situation for yourself, and the school's students and staff. Only public safety personnel will be allowed in or near a school during an emergency situation.
  • Do not call. Do not call the school or security staff during an emergency. We understand you may want to communicate with your student during an emergency, but calling may prevent them from hearing important instructions.
  • Be informed. Monitor your phone, Remind App, district social media channels, local law enforcement or fire social media channels, and local news. Scottsbluff Public Schools provides fast and accurate information to its community. In some situations, accurate information can take time to verify and share. Please be patient.
  • Be ready. When you are asked to pick up your student, come quickly and bring your identification to the reunification location communicated to you. We will only release students to designated emergency contacts so ensure your information is up to date at your local school.

Scottsbluff Public Schools is proud to be recognized as a Diamond Badge holder in the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Badge Certification for School Safety and Security
