SHS World Language Students take AAPL, qualify for Seal of Biliteracy

Scottsbluff High School students enrolled in World Language classes participated in The Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) in February 2024. The AAPPL is an assessment that measures proficiency across the three modes of communication, Interpersonal, Presentation, and Interpretive in various languages. AAPPL scores range from N-1 (low range of Novice) through A-1 (low range of Advanced.
Students have the opportunity to qualify for the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy which is an award given by the State of Nebraska in recognition of high school students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. In order to qualify for the seal of biliteracy the following criteria must be met:
  • Students must score Intermediate 3 or higher on all 4 tests to earn a silver seal.
  • Students must score Intermediate 5 or higher on all 4 tests to earn a Gold seal.
  • Students must demonstrate proficiency in English and in a language other than English.

Spanish 2024 Biliteracy Seal
  • 28 students in Spanish qualify to apply for the Nebraska Biliteracy Seal.
  • 20 students qualify for the silver seal
  • 8 students qualify for the gold seal

German 2024 Biliteracy Seal
  • 1 student in German qualifies to apply for the Nebraska Biliteracy Seal. This student qualifies for the silver seal.

These students qualify to apply for their Biliteracy Seal when they are seniors. They scored Intermediate 3 or higher in all language domains, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.
